Your neighbors called. They like your music.
I'd opine the "MW" number is likely an MWA Speaker Parts part number
Regardless of the number, the irregular/lumpy appearance of the pulp on the back side is correct.
It's an open molded cone like the 411 cone and several JBL cones like the 2235.
I think Hawley made many of the cones for Altec, and likely also made them for some of the repair parts vendors Like MWA, Waldom, and others. In some cases they were probably the same cones with different numbers. I think they're still in business today, and probably still using egg carton technology to mold speaker cones.

i have 4 of them, two were reconed by Bill. i don't recall a textured cone rear. mine are smooth and the surround on the original and GPA has an odd hump towards the outside. And i would imagine those cones are bit heavier.

Pretty certain the original cone number is 025127, it's what i have scribbled in my notes from long ago when i was learning about a pair of M500 i acquired. I'm pretty sure no one else had been inside since they left the factory.
Like many things Altec, the spec for the cone may have changed during production, the vendor may have changed. Who knows?
Some specifics we may never find a solid answer for.
As i have learned from Old Guy, when it comes to Altec products there are few absolutes, and numerous exceptions.
Look to the 604-8G for a classic example of subject to change without notice. Originally introduced with metal annular phase plug, and "light" diaphragm. Ended production with a standard diaphragm, and a radially slit, plastic phase plug with no change of model number, or even a suffix change to indicate a design change. They also went out the door with both new style and old style HF covers and foilcals.

The cones I had replaced looked Identical to the cones I got from gpa.

Altec rules - broken a lot lol.
Here is an original 3154 photo with a 025127 cone. I have about 10 pics of 3154 saved, all appear this way and have 025157 on the rear.
The giveaway is the larger surround on the original. The recone on fleapay looks like a larger diameter cone made to fit.
After looking closer...The recone on fleapay looks like a larger diameter cone made to fit.
Ebay example has spider overhanging frame edge, has a 3rd number blacked out on the cone, surround is mounted to the front of the cone when it should be rear mounted.
